Overview
Certificate II in Active Volunteering (CHC24015) is a qualification designed for entry level volunteers, where work takes place under direct, regular supervision within clearly defined guidelines. It assists in developing foundational skills to participate in the sector, including what it means to be a volunteer, how to prepare to volunteer, how to navigate different environments, how to communicate effectively, basic work safety, use of technology, and approaching basic writing tasks.
Who it’s for
We invite all new and existing volunteers to take part in this program with:
- A minimum of year 8 high school certificate or its equivalent
- Written and verbal English skills at a level capable of accurately collecting, analysing and reporting information
- A level of organisation and discipline to be able to successfully complete the required study and reading time
- The support of a workplace or volunteer organisation to complete a number of the required tasks and volunteering hours
As part of this course, you will need to complete or have recently completed at least 20 hours of volunteer work. Depending on where you choose to undertake your volunteering, organisations may require you to undertake relevant background and reference checks.

Delivery
The courses can be delivered in a variety of formats, including:
- A combination of direct delivery, external preparation and assignment work (offered in partnership with organisations).
- Externally online by distance learning for individual applicants. Materials will be accessed through our online portal, Moodle.
- Face-to-face or blended delivery for custom groups.
Schedule and duration
We recommend dedicating a minimum of 10 hours per week to successfully complete this course. It is expected that students will complete this certificate in 9 months. The key to success with this study is to make a commitment and set a time each week to complete assignments.
Partial qualifications are also available for those looking to only do a selection of units.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is offered for candidates who can demonstrate skills and knowledge from significant on-the-job learning or other relevant qualifications.
