John Young of Bodalla Marine Rescue Narooma

John has been a volunteer for 40 years with various organisations. As the unit co-ordinator of Marine Rescue in Narooma, John co-ordinates rescue operations for marine emergencies, liaises with other marine rescue agencies, trains volunteers and educates people on boating safety and training. John only took six weeks off from his volunteering duties to undergo cancer treatment. His colleagues say John has shown them that volunteering can be a way of life that enriches both the volunteer and community.


2014 Youth Volunteer of the Year

Winner: Andrew Daniels of Queanbeyan NSW State Emergency Service, Queanbeyan

Andrew is a team Leader in the Queanbeyan Unit of the SES. He is trained in storm damage, chainsaw, tree felling, land search and is part of the alpine search and rescue team. Andrew is also undertaking the SES Vertical Rescue Course so he can extend his ability to help the community further. Andrew’s nominator said that while every SES volunteer is dedicated, they felt Andrew was exceptional for the time he dedicates to the SES, his commitment to continual improvement and great attitude.

2014 Senior Volunteer of the Year

Winner: Neville Cowgill of Eden 1st Eden Scout Group

Neville has volunteered for the first Eden Scout Group and been at its helm for forty-six years. He has worked tirelessly to put his charges through badges, camps, hikes and major events, and has had a very positive impact on the children in the community over that time. While Scouts is Neville?s main volunteering commitment, he also gives his time to many other local services including the SES, Eden Marine Rescue, Eden Foreshore Committee, and the Eden Foreshore Committee to name a few.


2014 Volunteer Team of the Year

Winner: RSPCA Eurobodalla Team (represented by Megan Garrett)

The RSPCA Eurobodalla Branch began four years ago to improve animal welfare in the region. The team comprising 25 volunteers, supports owners unable to keep their pets by placing their pets in a foster home until a permanent home is found. The team has raised awareness of animal welfare and raised funds for education programs.
