2016 NSW Student Volunteer of the Year – Holly Johnson
December 5th, 2016
Volunteering propelled Holly from a shy and cripplingly anxious teenager into a confident advocate for others. For the first two years of high school Holly’s anxiety was so acute she barely spoke at all – volunteering with Amnesty International has literally helped Holly find her voice and within her school she has led the cause for Aboriginal educational issues and human rights for the LGBTI community. Holly is prepared to speak about her struggles with mental health to encourage other teenagers suffering similar feelings. She also volunteers at two local nursing homes lifting the spirits of the residents and the workload of the staff who deeply appreciate her presence.
