Final report on philanthropy from the Commonwealth Productivity Commission
The Commonwealth Productivity Commission has released its final report based on an Inquiry into philanthropic giving. The Centre made a submission to the draft report based earlier this year and are pleased to see several of our recommendations reflected in the final report.
Our summary concentrates on the findings in the report most relevant to volunteering but it has a wider and more detailed discussion on the entire community services sector.

Following a NSW Government review into emergency preparedness in 2023, the NSW Premier’s Department has released two reports outlining the current state of emergency volunteering in NSW and making recommendations to the Government as to how it can improve this aspect of the sector.

Postcards to the Advocate Report 2024
Postcards to the Advocate Report
The NSW Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People has published a report exploring more than 600 postcards written by children from across NSW. It highlights how these children see their lives, their hopes for the future and the world.
Young people are heavily involved in volunteering across Australia and are the largest cohort of volunteers in NSW.

The Institute of Community Directors Australia has released a report based on research that investigates Australia’s attitudes to the community sector.
The report highlights many positive aspects of engagement with the community sector and mentions volunteering as one of the ways that people in Australia contribute to their communities. It also highlights some of the complexities of engaging with the community sector, such as barriers to engagement and political activism.
