This report presents key findings from a survey on young people’s attitudes towards gender equality and violence against women. This report has been released by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS).

The report explores the attitudes of young Australians (aged 16–24 years) regarding violence against women and gender equality, based on the 2017 National Community Attitudes towards Violence against Women Survey. It also presents the reflections of young people on the findings.

The overall findings indicate that most young Australians have a good knowledge of key aspects of violence against women, support gender equality and reject attitudes supportive of violence against women. It also identified that some areas of concern remain, including young people’s understanding of control and sexual consent.

The paper offers implications for policy and practice based on its results.
