Supporting and encouraging public and voluntary service through patronages was one of the most important aspects of the Queen’s work.

The Queen was patron of hundreds of charities in her lifetime, supporting some of them for over 75 years. Having the Queen as patron or president created publicity for the work of these charities that led to greater recognition of their achievements and contributions to society.

In this video you can see the Queen thanking British volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her legacy will continue in the many charities and volunteers throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.
