Newman’s Own Foundation Grants for Youth

Newman’s Own Foundation is a private, US-based independent foundation established in 2005 by  the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman. To date over $540 million (USD) has been donated to thousands of charities around the world including $22 million (USD) to Australian and New Zealand charities.

2019 Expression Of Interest

In 2019 Newman’s Own Foundation is seeking grant applications from organisations providing support for youth in regional and rural areas disadvantaged by drought and/or other natural disasters. Due to the ongoing strain and pressure many communities are facing, these grants will support programs that improve the physical, social and mental wellbeing of young people and help them build resilience for the future.

Grants ranging between $30,000 to $75,000 (AUD).

The Foundation will address areas of disadvantage through grants that:

  • Improve access to educational, arts and sports programs;
  • Build capacity for mentoring and mental health counselling;
  • Facilitate access to medical services and facilities;
  • Address access to fresh food and nutrition;
  • Provide experiences outside the community via excursions and camps.

To help evaluate your EOI, please carefully read the following information and refer to the  “Charity – Criteria” for further guidelines.

Shortlist notification: Successful applicants will be notified by 17 May 2019 via email from Newman’s Own Foundation in the USA if their organisation has been shortlisted for the opportunity to apply for a grant and application documents will be forwarded electronically. They will need to complete the application and submit it with all relevant material by the 17th June 2019.

Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email before 17th June 2019. Please note that the final funding decisions are made in the USA and the Foundation does not enter into discussions regarding the selection process.

Funds will be made available in October 2019.

Evidence of taxation deductibility: As the Foundation is bound by the requirements of the USA Department of Internal Revenue, EOIs will only be accepted from charitable organisations with current Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. If you are uncertain of your organisation’s DGR status, your authorised representative can contact the ATO for confirmation on 1300 130 248.

Applications close: 4 March 2019.
