November Volunteer Management Forum – Volunteer Engagement and Recruitment During Lockdown 2021

November 25, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Gig Buddies Sydney is a befriending and mentoring program facilitated by ACL Disability Services. The project is designed to help tackle social isolation for adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism by pairing participants with a volunteer who shares the same interests to attend events together.

But what do you do when there are no events?

In this presentation, the Gig Buddies Sydney team will reflect on the unexpected, but totally necessary, pivot made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We look at how the transition from face-to-face social events to online events helped to keep our participants and volunteers engaged with the project and with each other.

Gig Buddies will also showcase studies demonstrating how we managed to continue pairing participants and volunteers to build a friendship in this new socially distanced climate – effectively innovating our usual modus operandi.

Finally, they will cover other ways that we collaborate with, engage with and recruit our volunteers and how this has shaped the future of our ongoing engagement with our community.

The Centre for Volunteering will be hosting the first of these seminars (on zoom) focusing on re-engaging volunteers as we move forward.
