To mark the International Day of Older Persons in 2020 and 2021 the Australian Human Rights Commission launched video campaigns to raise awareness among people who interact with older Australians about the warning signs of elder abuse and where to get support.

As well as the videos the Australian Human Rights Commission now has elder abuse awareness bookmarks and posters in 20 languages to increase community understanding of the signs of elder abuse.

Elder abuse can take various forms, including: financial, physical, psychological, emotional and sexual abuse, or neglect. No older person should be subjected to any form of abuse.

Anyone who suspects elder abuse can call the National Elder Abuse phone line on 1800ELDERHelp or 1800 353 374 for information, support and referrals. The National Elder Abuse phone line is Australia-wide, free and confidential.
