The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) is a national advocate for people affected by poverty, disadvantage and inequality, and the peak council for community services nationally.

The new research by the ACOSS and UNSW Poverty and Inequality Partnership, looks at the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on housing and homelessness in Australia during 2020 and 2021. Impacts of the pandemic on housing and homelessness were inevitable, given its effects on the economy as well as public health.

The COVID-19: Rental housing and homelessness policy impacts, 2021 Report identifies that there are now 400,000 families in need of affordable housing, and the problem will only get worse in the coming years unless serious action is taken.
