Overall Winner – 2014 Volunteer of the Year Central Coast

Fred has dedicated the past ten years to assisting teachers and students in the classroom at Woy Woy South Public School. He has developed a great rapport with the school and its students. His volunteering has allowed student learning to be extended by assisting reading groups, small activities and one-on-one interactions. Fred always shows enthusiasm for the work he does. He is a dedicated volunteer whose main aim is to further develop and support all children’s learning.

2014 Student Volunteer of the Year

Winner: Aidan Morley of Woy Woy who volunteers with Hammond Care.

Fifteen-year-old Aidan has shown initiative and dedication to community service. Aidan works as a volunteer with dementia patients in the high care facility at Hammond Care. He helps the patients move around, eat and spends time talking to them. He is kind and compassionate and enjoys working with patients, even though there are times when they do not even know who he is. In addition to volunteering at Hammond Care, Aidan volunteers for a number of other causes inclunding The Red Shield Appeal, 40 Hour Famine and the Coast Shelter Restaurant.

2014 Youth Volunteer of the Year

Winner: James Hanson of Watanobbi Lions Club of Wyong Inc.

At the age of 24, James has volunteered in a number of roles at the Lions Club Wyong, as well as for special events at other organisations. This includes fundraising; assisting at events such as fetes and market days and helping to run camps. James is also an anti-bully and disability advocate as well as a gardener for a Museum at Wyong. Despite personal barriers that he has faced, James is always there to lend a hand where help is needed.

2014 Adult Volunteer of the Year

Winner: Clint Pressley of Kincumber NSW Rural Fire Service.

At just 27 years of age, Clint?s committment to the Copacabana Rural Fire Brigade has been significant. Since starting with the brigade nine years ago he has held a number of positions.This includes, but is not limited to, Captain, Training Officer, and Community Engagement Officer. Clint has maintained one of the highest levels of emergency call out attendances, always completeing his duties with integrity and dedication. He is a well respected member of the Copacabana Rural Fire Brigade and in the Gosford Rural Fire Service District.

2014 Volunteer Team of the Year

Winner: Lake Haven Recreation Centre Breakfast Club, YMCA, Gorokan. Represented by Leonie Ralph on behalf of the seven-member team.

Lake Haven Recreation Centre Breakfast, YMCA

Working four days a week, these seven volunteers understand the impact going without breakfast may have on a child. They work hard to make sure children in the Lake Haven area have access to a filling and nutritious breakfast. Without this service it is likely the 850 or so students that pass through their doors every month would go without the most important meal of the day.
