CALD Mental Health Consumer and Carer Group

Consumer and Carer representatives are being sought for the National Multicultural Mental Health Project.

This project, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, will focus on mental health and suicide prevention for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in Australia.

Mental Health Australia (MHA), the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) and the National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) will work together with people from CALD backgrounds who have experienced mental health issues and their carers to achieve the aims of this national project.

The project aims to improve mental health services for people from CALD backgrounds by helping organisations and workers to better understand and respond to the needs of Australia’s CALD communities.

As part of this National project, a 16-member CALD Mental Health Consumer and Carer Group will be formed to provide advice based on members’ personal experience and connections to their communities.

Representatives are being sought who:

  • are from a multicultural or migrant community and/or refugee background,
  • care for someone with a mental health issue,
  • have experienced mental health issues in their life,
  • are passionate about improving mental health services for multicultural communities.
