2021 Club Volunteer of the Year – John Rodd

The retired cattle farmer and Wagga RSL member sources steers for local high schools and mentors agriculture students in raising the animals and preparing them show at events such as the Canberra and the Melbourne Shows.
Every steer is then auctioned to raise money for local schools and charities, including Country Hope, Beyond Blue, McGrath Foundation, Prostate Cancer, Wagga Women’s Health Clinic, PCYC and Willans Hill Public School.
John has prepared a 25 over the last 21 years, raising an estimated $208,000.
Most have been looked after at John’s property, which means for five months a year John endure searly mornings, many hours of feeding, training, grooming and care.
