Volunteering is a choice. It is important that the type of volunteer role that you select matches your interests, lifestyle and skills. Take the time to consider the amount of time you are able to commit, where you want to volunteer and your obligations to the volunteer organisation.
This section is dedicated to helping you find out more about youth volunteering and different volunteer opportunities for young people.
What are your priorities and what you would like to get out of volunteering?
A good starting point is to think about what you are interested in and what you are passionate about.
Do you want to help the homeless, join the fight against global warming, or even teach others skills you already possess? There are many, unique ways for you to get involved and participate in worthwhile causes in the community.
Bear in mind that volunteering involves commitment on your part.
Think about the amount of time you are able to dedicate to volunteer work, given other demands on your time, such as school or uni and other extracurricular activities. Also consider your proximity to the volunteer location and its accessibility via your preferred means of transport.
Last, but not least, it is important to define your expectations, what you hope to achieve and how you will go about achieving it.
Volunteering offers many rewards. It will help you grow and develop both personally and professionally. In addition to meeting new people and making friends, you can obtain valuable on-the-job experience whilst learning new skills. It's all up to you!
