Have your say on climate change at the NSW Community Climate Summit
Nature Conservation Council of NSW

NSW Climate SummitHave your say on climate change and register for the NSW Community Climate Summit, being held on 20–21 February 2009 (with an introductory evening on 19 February 2009) in Sydney.

The first of its kind in NSW, the summit will provide an opportunity for everyday Australians to discuss our response to the critical issue of climate change and to make recommendations to the NSW Government. The NSW Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Hon Carmel Tebbutt MP, will open the summit and will receive the community's recommendations after the event.

Please register your interest by Wednesday, 21 January 2009 at www.nccnsw.org.au/nswclimatesummit or call 02 9279 2466. Registered community members will be randomly selected from across NSW to represent the diversity of our community and invited to attend the NSW Community Climate Summit in February 2009.

You do not need to be well informed on the issue of climate change to participate. Expert speakers and facilitators will be provided to support your participation, as well as preparatory resources. Participants must be 18 years or over. The event is at no cost and catering will be provided.

Coordinated by the Nature Conservation Council of NSW, and assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust, the NSW Community Climate Summit is part of a state wide program which aims to strengthen planning and decision making on climate change with community input.

Local forums have been convened during October and November 2008 in Coffs Harbour, Armidale, Uralla, Guyra, Tumut, Swansea, Erina, Pittwater, Warringah, Blacktown, Holroyd and Penrith. Forum participants all explored with expert assistance the question How can we work together to respond to climate change to offer detailed recommendations to local and state government.

A NSW Community Feedback Report, detailing the recommendations from all 12 local forums, will be delivered to the NSW Government in January 2009. Local forum participants have also been invited to attend the NSW Community Climate Summit in February 2009.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative that the voice of the community guides government decision making on the critical issue of climate change and we look forward to your involvement in this important community event.
