After the tragic death of their building foreman Darren Stratti, Food Water Shelter's school project in Tanzania is back on the path to completion
By Jenny Symons

Rebecka and DarrenFWS is a foundation established by three young Australians, all of whom had worked as volunteers in Africa. The Foundation builds and runs eco–friendly children's villages with education, social and health facilities for children in developing countries.

On Monday, 30 June this year, Darren was killed during a burglary that took place in the FWS village in Arusha, Tanzania. The shock of this tragic event brought a temporary halt to the building of the school but FWS remains committed to its completion.

Rebecka Delforce – one of the founders of FWS and Darren's partner – had recently become a volunteer contributor to this e-zine.

Now a tribute team of eight men – brothers, father and close mates of Darren – is on its way to Tanzania on a mission to complete the project that had been so important to Darren.

The re–commitment to the project has been aided by the fundraising assistance of the Planet Wheeler Foundation (previously the Lonely Planet Foundation).

ABC-TV's Australian Story on Darren Stratti will air on these dates in Australia:

  • Monday, 29 September at 8pm on ABC1
  • Tuesday, 30 September at 8pm on ABC2
  • Saturday, 4 October at 12.30pm on ABC1
