Volunteering makes a difference: Volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged or at-risk young people

We are currently identifying and assisting volunteering organisations to provide a range of volunteering opportunities for disadvantaged or at-risk young people. To date, we have identified 16 organisations in which to place these volunteers. We are recruiting young people from Sydney University's Young People on Community Orders Health Survey project to participate in our pilot program. We have also formed partnerships with Oasis Youth Support Network and Youth Off The Streets. They are connecting us with a number of young people who could benefit from volunteering in a positive and supported environment.

We are currently working with the young people and the volunteer organisations to create suitable and beneficial volunteer matches.

We recently attended a forum concerning Australian Indigenous health and education at NSW Parliament House in Macquarie Street. Some of the issues discussed will provide vital information about how we can work with young people of Australian Indigenous heritage on this project.
