National Bank welcomes entries for volunteer awards
Since 1998, more than 17,200 local clubs and organisations have been nominated for a NAB award, with over $2.3 million awarded to community groups across the country. In 2006, winners will share a total prize of $364,000. Organisations relying on volunteers can nominate themselves based on the quality and value of their volunteer programs. In 2005, groups such as the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Victoria and the Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Service in Western Australia won their respective categories. There are seven categories: 1) art and culture 2) community service and development 3) education and youth development 4) emergency and safety 5) environment and wildlife 6) health and wellbeing, and 7) tourism, sport and recreation. Eligible organisations must have been active in a community within the past 12 months and be operating mainly with volunteers. NAB Volunteer Awards are judged on best practice, which looks at management topics such as how volunteers are inducted, organised and recognised for the work that they do. The NAB website has useful tips for addressing each application question, and nominations will be accepted by mail or online until Wednesday, 28 June. Entry forms are also available from NAB branches.
