NSW Volunteers to Help Shape New Strategy

Volunteers and volunteer groups will help the NSW Government develop the first NSW Volunteering Strategy as part of a state wide consultation process starting today. Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello MP said the NSW Office of Communities has worked closely with Volunteer Referral and Resource Centres on the initiative. "Volunteering is vital – it's the backbone of our community. It directly contributes to our economy and to the health and strength of our communities," Minister Dominello said. Ignite MasterClass - 10 August 2011

The Ignite MasterClass "Promote Team Effectiveness" is designed for Volunteer Managers and Coordinators working within the community sector.

It will give you the opportunity to:

  • Gain further knowledge and skills in the area of building and leading a volunteer team
  • Network with other professionals from the NFP sector
  • Participate in highly interactive training using a wide variety of delivery methods
  • Be accredited with one unit, Promote Team Effectiveness, from the Certificate IV Volunteer Program Coordination (10 units in total) following the successful submission of one take-home assessment.

The workshops, to be held on Tuesday, 10 August 2011, will be facilitated by international volunteer management expert Martin J Cowling, CEO of People First Total Solutions.

The Centre for Volunteering was thrilled to host two half-day Ignite Workshops, presented by international Volunteer Management expert and President of Energize, Inc., Susan J. Ellis on Wednesday, 1 June 2011. Susan's morning forum to not-for-profot CEOs and decision makers, From the Top Down: The Executive Role in Successful Volunteer Involvement, was thought provoking and asked many volunteer focussed questions that the audience had never associated with their role before. Her afternoon workshop was aimed at Volunteer Managers and titled Volunteers and Employees: Tension or Teamwork? 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award - Nominations now open

2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award Open for Nominations
The Centre for Volunteering is calling for nominations of individual and corporate volunteers and volunteer teams for the 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award. Now in its fifth year, the Award recognises the outstanding efforts of the 2.4 million volunteers in NSW, promotes the importance of volunteering to the community and to companies. Nominations close on Wednesday, 31 August 2011 (one month earlier than previously). Nominate online today.

IYV+10 Award for Volunteer Management added to 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award Program
Thanks for $12,000 funding from the Federal Government's Citizenship and Communities Minister, the Hon. Victor Dominello, a special award for Volunteer Managers has been added to the 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award Program. More information on the award, its criteria and how to nominate will be available in coming days.

$27,000 for 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award
Citizenship and Communities, the Hon. Victor Dominello has pledged an additional $12,000 in State Government funding for the 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award. Read more
