Stephen Sanson has been a volunteer with the State Emergency Services for more than 23 years, ensuring that important work is done in a timely and professional manner. Stephen has put in thousands of hours in training and assisting others in times of flood, storm or other natural disaster. In addition to his ongoing responsibilities, Stephen has volunteered readily for community support activities and plays a huge part in team cohesion of the 45 members of the Ashfield-Leichhardt local command.
His nominator Peter Kaye says: "When setting the criteria for an ideal volunteer, Steve could easily be the source … and role model!"
Ashley Douglas has been a committed member of the St Scholastica's College, Glebe, Streamwatch team from years 7 to 12, monitoring the water bodies in the Rozelle area. She has also been an active member of Leichhardt Council's Youth Council, helping organise holiday programs, fundraising for local youth refuges and community facilities. Ashley has since received a 2006 Green Ambassador award – one of just 20 in Australia, and has completed a bush regeneration project at Cobbity.
Her referee, Tracey Roberts says: "Ashley has shown a commitment to environmental management and conservation throughout her high school years and I am positive she will continue with this work."
Frank Marjason has been a volunteer at the Drummoyne Community Centre since its inception 28 years ago. He has played a significant role in encouraging older people to explore their creativity. Frank and his wife Margaret have facilitated Artability, a group who have severe physical disabilities, to express themselves through art. At the age of 90, Franck became a life member of the Centre.
His nominator, Ros Lance, says: "Frank is an inspirational role model for others and his altruistic approach to life is exceptional."
