Riverina Region Volunteer of the Year

Maxwell Day of Lockhart

Maxwell Day has been a cornerstone of the Lockhart community for many years and as President of the town's Progress Association has spent many hours on community projects and investigating business opportunities. He has been instrumental in retaining vital medical services for Lockhart, achieving industrial development and promoting the proposed local biodiesel project. Maxwell has been Chairman of the Lockhart Showground Racecourse and Management Committee and is Steward of the Lockhart Show.

His nominator, Rose Lehmann says: "the survival of our town is due to people who never let an opportunity pass, who are progressive and forward thinking. Maxwell day has shown exceptional dedication through the Progress Association to help sustain and improve Lockhart community during adverse times".

Riverina Region Senior Volunteer of the Year

Ted Strachan of Cootamundra

Ted Strachan has been a volunteer at the Cootamundra Retirement Village for 12 years and puts in at least 150 hours a year to help the residents. He is a volunteer driver of the bus he helped raise funds to buy, and organises a number of activities, parties and roster duties. His nominator Ken Trethewey says: "If something needs to be done for the benefit of the residents, then you can rely on Ted to be there ready to help out."
