Russell Deaves is a Foundation Member of Wyee Bush Fire Brigade in 1960. He became Deputy Captain just two years later and Captain from 1964 until 1980 and was promoted subsequently to Senior Group Captain for Lake Macquarie Shire. Over the years he has volunteered to assist in disasters further afield, including the Nyngan floods, Newcastle earthquake and Sydney storms. Russell was awarded the Brigade Captains Committee Award for leadership and outstanding service and is involved in extensive community work throughout the Wyee area.
His nominator, T. K. Pryor says: Russell's dedication to the community is seen through his countless hours of volunteering and caring concern for all."
Jamie is one of the driving forces behind the central Coast Interlynk Lounge and Youth Arts Warehouse, helping coordinate and launch the events, raise funds' liaising with bands and promoting. As a helper for the Interlynk Lounge he helps run events, especially those targeting safety, such as safe partying, or making a film about the dangers of drink driving.
His nominator, Glenys Tory, says: "His self determination by exploring options, challenging obstacles as been ethical and respectful to staff and young people."
Angels of Mercy Welfare services is a mobile service which mainly aims to help migrants from Africa access services to improve their needs and living conditions. Two years ago Michael Read offered his services to establish a camp centre where teenagers and youth can meet local services providers to become better educated on health, hygiene and safety. Michael has offered great support and facilities for the meetings to take place and to make them enjoyable for all participants.
