Ignite 2012

The Centre for Volunteering invites you to join fellow volunteer managers and coordinators at the 2012 Ignite Volunteering Conference to be held in Sydney CBD on Friday 27 July, 2012. The day will comprise of a mixture of plenary sessions, interactive workshops, panels and case studies, all focusing on Innovation and Partnerships. The aim is that you will take with you the inspiration to build innovative ideas into your programs and organisations, and help you to look at opportunities for partnerships with other community organisations, sponsors and client groups.

Throughout the day, plenary and workshop presenters will share new and creative approaches that can be implemented by volunteer managers to improve various aspects of their organisation and volunteer programs.  Conference topics will be centred around: 

  • Collaboration and partnerships
  • Youth volunteers
  • Volunteer recruitment and retention
  • Funding, grants and sponsorship
  • Corporate volunteering
  • Teamwork
  • Marketing and communication
  • Risk management
  • Diverse groups of volunteers


The conference will begin with plenary sessions from renowned speakers and experts, two of whom include:

Peter Slattery
For the past 30 years, Peter has worked as a therapist, educator, facilitator and trainer for individuals and communities around the world, including various government departments and non-government agencies in the health, youth and community fields.  He uses an array of strategies to assist in developing new and exciting ways to help people explore what troubles or inspires them.  Peter will share with you innovative ideas to develop partnerships and engage young volunteers.
Martin J. Cowling
Martin J. Cowlingis a world-renowned expert in volunteer management.  He has also gained recognition as a leading international trainer and consultant. Martin has spent over 30 years in not-for-profit leadership and management roles, strengthening organisations and communities.  Martin will convey thought provoking and cutting-edge ideas about attracting new volunteers and improving teamwork in his usual energetic and engaging manner.

In addition to these plenary sessions, delegates will choose from 16 interactive workshop sessions. Some of these workshops will include:

The Ignite Volunteering Conference provides an ideal opportunity to network with volunteer supervisors, coordinators and managers in NSW, while hearing from experienced trainers, academics and volunteer managers from the community sector.

Delegates will be provided with a conference satchel, morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch and handouts for workshops throughout the day.

Venue: Sydney Marriott Hotel, 36 College Street, Sydney CBD (opposite Hyde Park).

Cost per Delegate: $200 for members | $250 for non-members
