The Voice of Volunteering

Volunteer Life

Have you volunteered abroad and haven’t found a way to make sense of it all?

Culture shock, seeing chronic poverty or living closely with 'the locals' can be difficult things to describe to those with an inexperienced eye.

I am a social researcher, with the Centre for Research on Social Inclusion (CRSI), looking for 20 return volunteers to participate in a project that can help you make sense of such an experience. An opportunity to share your inner thoughts and doubts on the subject with like-minded people, acquire valuable skills and be rewarded for your insights.

The project involves reflection on your own travel experiences through small contributions to an online blog over a 4 month period.

What will you gain from this experience?

  • A broader understanding of your cultural experience
  • Skills and experience in cultural research and travel writing
  • An edited compilation of participants' final reflections
  • Formal acknowledgement of participation from the CRSI
  • A chance to win one of two Apple iPads

If you are interested or want to find out more, please email me, Carlos Palacios, Project Coordinator at: carlos.palacios@mq.edu.au

Attend the info session

When: Wednesday, 23 March 2011 from 6pm
Where: Building C5C, Room 371, Macquarie University
