National Volunteer Week: Thank You to 5 million Australians

14 February 2008 | Volunteering Australia

National Volunteer Week 2008 will be held from the 12–18 May.

The theme of National Volunteer Week is "Volunteers Change Our World" and the week aims to recognise the role of volunteers in our community and say thank you for their contribution.

More than 5 million Australians volunteer each year representing 34% of the Australian
population. Volunteers contribute more than 713 million hours of work to their communities.

The diversity of volunteering opportunities is amazing including emergency services, health services, legal work, education and sport, just to name a few.

Volunteering Australia's search engine (govolunteer.com.au) lists more than 11,000
voluntary positions nationally and provides a free service to volunteers seeking placement and to not-for-profit organisations seeking volunteers.

If you would like to feature volunteering in your publication coinciding with National Volunteer Week please contact us to discuss the options and we will assist by making a suitable connection for you. More details on National Volunteer Week are available on our website at www.volunteeringaustralia.org
