4 July 2008 | Minister for Fair Trading, Youth and Volunteering, Linda Burney
Minister for Volunteering Linda Burney was in Taree today where she visited Volunteer
Connections, the volunteer referral and resource centre, and presented them with a cheque for $17,975.
Ms Burney said Taree was one of nine Volunteer Resource Centres across NSW to benefit from a total of $128,164 funding.
"Volunteers are the life-blood of our communities. They, and the organisations they work for, receive excellent support from these centres through professional recruitment, referral and training programs," Ms Burney said.
"These nine centres make up 45 per cent of the total volunteer projects funded under the Department of Community Services (DoCS) Community Services Grants Program.
"The Iemma Government is committed to meeting its target of increasing community involvement in volunteering by 10 per cent by 2016. The services funded by DoCS will help the Government reach its target through the delivery of important volunteer support programs right across NSW.
“There is no doubt Volunteer Connections plays a big part in encouraging and supporting more people in the Manning, Great Lakes and Gloucester region to volunteer, and I am delighted we are able to provide funding to support their valuable work."
Ms Burney said the funding would cover the 2008/09 financial year.
