September 2008 | The Centre for Volunteering
The Board of The Centre for Volunteering met for its bi-monthly meeting in Sydney on Wednesday, 23 July 2008. Read their latest Communiqué.
The Board welcomed Geoff Copeland, Manager of the School of Volunteer Management (SVM) who reported on School activities and priorities for the future. Future activities include the 'Speak Up Speak Out' workshops to be held in late August and early September 2008. These workshops are back by popular demand after the success of the sold-out workshops conducted in November 2007. So check the School's website to make sure you don't miss out.
Program managers reported to the Board on some of The Centre's recent activities which included conducting the July Networking Event on the Social Styles Model, matching 100 volunteers from Eli Lilly to a not-for-profit organisation for a corporate volunteering placement, delivering SCIP (School Community Involvement Project) presentations in several schools and to the South West Regional SRC Conference, launching the new SVM website, completing a report on the optimal size of Boards and processing over 50 nominations for the 2008 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award. Don't forget to nominate your volunteers!
The Board has released a survey to members and key-stakeholders, giving them the opportunity to respond to the strategic objectives and strategies of The Centre for Volunteering for the next five years. Surveys were due back by 11 August 2008 and results will be collated shortly thereafter.
The Chair accepted Dr Tracy Taylor's resignation from the Board of Directors. Tracy's contribution to the Board has been invaluable, especially with regard to the strategic planning processes for the SVM. Tracy's continuing commitment to The Centre's SVM Committee will be a great asset. The Chair would like to welcome Harry Whelan on to the Board of Directors. Harry has extensive experience with The Centre as a volunteer for the SCIP program and joins the Board with fresh ideas from a youth perspective. Harry's profile will be available on the website soon.
The following organisations applied for membership of The Centre for Volunteering and were accepted as new members at the meeting:
On behalf of the Board I am pleased to welcome these diverse not-for-profit and corporate organisations to The Centre for Volunteering membership and thank our renewing members for their support.
Joy Woodhouse, Chair
