[26 June 2007 | Conservation Volunteers Australia]
Awards for the Commonwealth Green Ambassadors 2007 are open until 27 July 2007.
The program, now in its third year, acknowledges 20 young Australian 16-23 year olds who are actively involved in protecting their local environment, giving them a fantastic opportunity to work with Conservation Volunteers Australia.
Green Ambassadors get the chance to select from a range of vitally important projects and join the expert Conservation Volunteers Australia team for an unforgettable five day conservation experience.
Last year's Green Ambassadors travelled the country to gain valuable hands-on environmental experience, working on a number of essential projects such as reef preservation on Magnetic Island (QLD) and protecting the endangered Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby in the Flinders Ranges (SA).
Putting the spotlight on to budding conservationists across the country, the program aims to give support and recognition young people working actively within local communities.
To ensure that positive green initiatives such as tree planting, energy-saving, carbon neutral schemes, self sufficiency and animal welfare get the acclaim they deserve, schools, colleges and local action groups across the country are encouraged to spread the word about Commonwealth Bank Green Ambassadors.
The program is open to young Australians who are working to help the environment in at least one of the following ways:
Ambassadors also receive a Commonwealth Bank Green Ambassadors pack which includes a high quality digital camera to record their experiences, a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate 1 in Active Volunteering) and 12 months' membership to Conservation Volunteers Australia.
Individuals can nominate themselves direct, or place a nomination for any family member, student, friend or colleague that deserves recognition. Application is quick and easy – and the nominations period is open until 27 July 2007.
