Debnam pays tribute to the state's volunteers

[17 May 2006 | Peter Debnam MP, NSW Liberal Leader]

NSW Liberal Leader Peter Debnam today paid tribute to the state's volunteers for the immense contribution they make to the local community.

"This week is National Volunteer Week and it gives us an opportunity to say thank you to all the volunteers that give up their time to contribute to the community," Mr Debnam said.

"The tireless work and dedication of volunteers form the foundations of our state," he said.

"We are all touched by the efforts of volunteers.

"Without volunteers we would not have life savers patrolling our beaches, referees and umpires at our children's sporting events or SES volunteers fighting bushfires.

"The service of volunteers impacts all our lives. Whether it is the mums and dads who help out at the school sports carnival, children down the street who help out at the local nursing home or those who participate in the Safety House or Neighbourhood Watch programs.

"My wife Deborah has been part of Meals on Wheels for a number of years and I know she gains great satisfaction from the service she provides.

"Nearly everyone in NSW has either served as a volunteer or benefited from the assistance of volunteers themselves, and for this we can all be grateful.

"The satisfaction volunteers get from the community work they undertake is significant reward for the time they commit.

"On behalf of NSW Liberal/Nationals, I extend my thanks and appreciation to volunteers for the work they do and the benefit our community receives as a result," Mr Debnam said.
