Ticker Tape Parade for Volunteer Fire Fighters

Our event volunteers were sensational at the ticker tape parade to celebrate the volunteer fire fighters and their heroic work during the 2002 summer bushfires.

The parade was a remarkable event! As if on cue, the heavy fog that had blanketed Sydney early in the morning lifted to reveal a brilliant blue sky.

The 100 event volunteers clocked on early, ready to begin their work as Parade Marshal. Wearing safety jackets, they took up their positions along George Street as the huge crowds from all over NSW began to arrive.

It was an emotional experience for everyone as the Christmas bushfire heroes made their way from Circular Quay to Town Hall. Helicopters hovered overhead, fire engines hooted and wailed and cheering, happy people were everywhere.

Homemade banners and signs tugged at the heartstrings. "Thank you from the people of Warragamba" said one, while many proudly said, "You are my heroes".

It was a wonderful day to be a volunteer! It was a wonderful day to be part of a grateful community paying tribute again to its magnificent volunteer fire fighters. Well done everyone, with special thanks to the volunteer!
