The Sydney Gay Games was the biggest sporting and cultural event of 2002.
Held in late October / early November 2002, the Games celebrated sport, culture, human rights and social justice.
Winning a medal was not the only goal; there was a strong emphasis on taking part; reaching personal bests and having fun.
More than 11,500 athletes from around the world competed in 31 sports, included swimming, track and field, aerobics, cycling, diving, hockey, triathlon, water polo and the marathon. To help it all run smoothly were 150 event volunteers whose roles ranged from roving information and spectator services assistants to technical officials at the swimming and track and field events
It was great fun for everyone and the volunteers were thrilled to be part of another "best ever" sporting event in Sydney.
