FORMAL VOLUNTEERING UP IN NSW – BUT THE ACT IS THE TOP VOLUNTEERING STATE
The latest Census data reveals an increase in the number of people volunteering in NSW. Census 2016 shows that 18.1% NSW residents aged over 15 volunteered in a formal capacity, up from 16.9% in the previous census (2011). More women than men volunteer: 20% of NSW women volunteer compared to 16% of males. This is the case across every age group from 15 to 85 years – in each age category more women volunteer than men.
