Our research and policy team is available for consultation by appointment and can assist in research design, policy development, grant applications, and evaluation strategies for your organisation.
Our research and policy team is headed up by Tony Frew. Tony has extensive experience as a corporate professional and a business owner. He has held various honorary positions in the NFP and government sectors and has several tertiary qualifications relevant to the position of Research and Policy Manager.
Tony brings a new focus to research and policy in The Centre for Volunteering. Now, external research projects will be selected on the basis of relevance to the Membership, funding bodies, volunteers and The Centre.
Tony is growing the department so it can undertake research on behalf of the Members in order to keep them 'ahead of the game' and ensure The Centre continues to effectively perform its role as the peak body for volunteering in NSW.
Projects and consultancies include:
- The Centre for Volunteering's 2006 Membership Report
- National Parks and Wildlife Service: volunteering trends paper, volunteer management policy review, advising on a range of volunteering models and databases.
- Employee Volunteering Programs: researching critical success factors of NSW programs for not-for-profit organisations. This project is being funded by The Westpac Foundation.
- Volunteering and the Law: researching the legal issues of and resources used by NSW volunteering organisations. Seeking funding to create a comprehensive and interactive legal resource for all NSW not-for-profits.
- University of Technology Community Legal Centre: reviewed questionnaires and focus group briefs, lead focus groups and assisted in data analysis.
- Schools Community Involvement Program: researching international best practice, designing and implementing evaluation strategy.
- Evaluation: identifying best ways of supporting not-for-profits in conducting evaluations of their programs.
